Manchester City, the richest team in the world now

Sheikh Mansour's entry into the Premier League changed the status quo, not only of English football but of the entire football world in general. Now Manchester City is the richest team in the world. This is the "verdict" of the Deloitte Football Money League 2022, which presented its annual study on the financial statements of football clubs.

Thus, for the first time at the top of the Money League with revenues of 571.1 million pounds or 644.9 million euros for the 2020/21 season, Manchester City appears, which became only the fourth team to have this privilege.

Revenue increased by 95.7 million euros from last season, which allowed City to rise five places (from sixth place last year). It is characteristic that the income of City increased from 12.7 million pounds to 571.1 million pounds in 25 years. !!!

Real Madrid (€ 640.7 million, second) and Bayern (€ 611.4 million, third) were the two clubs that managed to generate revenue of over € 600 million in each of the 2019/2020 season and 2020/21, supported by strong performance on the field and their commercial profile.

Barcelona (€ 582.1 million) dropped to fourth place, lower than the 2013/14 season, while Manchester United (€ 558 million) retains its own place in the top five (but the lowest in its history). Money League) with just € 1.8 million more than Paris Saint-Germain (€ 556.2 million), despite finishing second behind Manchester City and being a UEFA Europa League finalist. At 8.2 billion euros the total revenue in the ranking of the Money League.

In total, the revenues generated by this year's clubs that are in the Money League ranking are 8.2 billion euros, an increase of less than 1% from 2019/20, but still more than 1 billion euros lower than 2018/19 ( 9.3 billion euros).

At 111 million euros, the revenues of the match were measured, lower than ever in the Money League history due to the absence of the fans from the stadiums.

Revenues from television rights were 4.6 billion euros, 1.4 billion euros more than in 2019/20.

Commercial revenues showed a decrease of 7% (261 million euros) from the high record of 2019/20 (3.8 billion euros), which is not as important as many had predicted.

The 20 richest clubs in the Money League lost, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 2 billion euros of revenue from the middle of the 2019/20 season to the end of the 2020/21 season, gaining substantial revenue, at the levels before almost five years.

The English Premier League, the all-time leading player in the world, reappeared in this year's Money League, with more than half (11) in the top 20 clubs coming from the English Premier League, the highest percentage ever observed.

Among the top 20 clubs in revenue, there are 11 from the Premier League, 2 from Italy, 3 from Spain, 2 from Germany and one from France and Russia respectively.
