Andrea Berta takes on sales work at Arsenal!
Andrea Berta, has done brilliantly with the additions he has made on behalf of the Gunners in this summer`s transfer.
So far, Arsenal's Italian sporting director, Andrea Berta, has done brilliantly with the additions he has made on behalf of the Gunners. Especially after the acquisition of 27-year-old Swedish international forward, Victor Gyokeres, the bar has been raised even higher in terms of revenue. Moreover, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta wants to reduce his manpower, which means that five players must be sold in order to pave the way for other transfers.
Arsenal is true to say that they are "jealous" of the example of Chelsea and Liverpool. The "blues" raised approximately 51.8 million euros by selling Armando Broja and Leslie Ugochukwu to Burnley. While the move of Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal will bring in the amount of 60 million euros, which means that Liverpool has collected this summer the amount of 260 million euros.
How much did Arsenal receive? They have only earned 9.85 million euros from the sales of footballers. After the sale of left-back Nuno Tavares (to Lazio) and Marquinhos to Cruzeiro. It is clear that the amount seems very small compared to the previous ones.
Berta
Now the burden will fall on their sporting director, Italian Andrea Berta. Time is of course pressing him since until September 1 he is asked to find a team for 5 footballers. Berta took over as sporting director in March, but he showed his mettle with the €73.7m signing of Gyokeres (from Sporting Lisbon). He has also made progress on a series of contract renewals with Gabriel Magalhaes, Miles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri all signing new deals in the last two months.
But Berta’s attention will now turn to revenue as the board look to give Arteta the opportunity to make another big signing. And this is where the Italian sporting director’s experience and extensive network of contacts will come into play.
In fact, Arteta has made it clear that the Gunners need to offload players to maximise their chances of spending more on transfers.
