Munich time zero: PSG faces Inter in a game without tomorrow

Manos Staramopoulos • 29 de mayo de 2025

The saturday May 31, the ambitious PSG faces Inter with the aim of winning the greatest (so far) title in its history. That is, to emerge as European champions.

Luis Enrique and Simone Inzaghi, trainers of PSG and Inter Milan, respectively.

So we have reached the end of this year's competitive season, at least at the European level, as it should not escape our attention, from June 14 to July 13 we have the expanded Club World Cup with 36 teams!

So in Munich on Saturday, May 31, the ambitious Paris Saint-Germain faces Inter with the aim of winning the greatest (so far) title in its history. That is, to emerge as European champions. After all, there are not a few who consider the French team the favorite according to what it has shown so far.

Its Spanish coach, Luis Enrique, aims to end a negative tradition for his team, as another time it had reached the final (he was not at the helm at the time) it had lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich. However, the Parisians, who this year secured the 13th French championship and won the 16th cup of their country, are now a completely different team. The highly paid and world-class Messi, Neymar and Mbappe are no longer in its team. And while many would wonder, how will it achieve its goals? The reality is that Luis Enrique has emphasized young talented children who are thirsty for distinctions and give their best on the field. Thus we saw Paris eliminate Liverpool, Arsenal and even playing wonderful football.

Renewed Dembele and impressive Vitinha

The Spaniard, Luis Enrique, we must admit that he has effectively managed the team rotation, keeping his team fresh as he heads to Munich with a four-game winning streak. The left-footed French international, Ousmane Dembele, next to Enrique is … a different man. He has had an impressive season. And he is perhaps the footballer who can bring up and down. Of course not alone. The young winger, Desire Doue has shown an impressive rise. Barkola is in excellent form and has scored over 20 goals in total. Then, there is the international Georgian winger Kvitsa Kvaratskelia (acquired in January from Napoli) and who has won two league titles this season and is doing incredible things.

We left last, the also important midfielder, Portuguese Vitinha. A footballer on whom many issues in the midfield depend. And of course we will hear his name many times in the summer, as several clubs are already interested...

Inter have other plans

On the other hand, Inter, led by the very good coach Simone Inzaghi, relies on experience and cunning. Eleven members of Inzaghi's team are 30 or older and many have already tasted glory on the European stage. But they appear in the final even though they lost the Serie A title last week by a single point to Napoli.

A run of three consecutive defeats (between the elimination of Bayern Munich and the confrontation with Barcelona) has ended their hopes for the Italian Cup and ultimately destroyed their ambitions for the championship. So now they must throw all their weight into claiming the greatest trophy on the continent. If they succeed, all previous failures will be forgotten.

The Nerazzurri are betting heavily on the brilliant Argentine striker, Lautaro Martinez, who is a firepower. He can deal with any well-organized defense. Next to him, French forward Marcus Thuram is another threat. But Inter's real strength lies in their collective effort. So far this season, 21 different players have scored and provided assists, with Dutch international defender Denzel Dumfries contributing 17 of them. Their teamwork makes them greater than the sum of their roles. As everyone understands, we have a battle of two different schools. Attractive football, talent and thirst on the one hand. Experience and teamwork on the other. The rest will be seen in the final…
