Río Ngumoha, Liverpool`s last action hero against Newcastle in Premier League clash.

The future truly belongs to the children. And 16-year-old striker Rio Ngumoha  is one of them. Rio redeemed Liverpool in the 100th minute of the match against Newcastle (3-2) and even away from home, writing his name in golden letters as he became the youngest scorer in the history of the Reds.

Despite seeing Newcastle come back to lose 2-0 with ten players, Liverpool nevertheless left St. James' Park with the three points. With a 16-year-old as a hero. Rio Ngumoha, a new child prodigy who was introduced to the public in an impressive way.

The young winger, who made his debut in January in an FA Cup match (last season), made golden history, as at the age of 16 years and 361 days, he became the youngest scorer in Liverpool's history.

At the same time, he also became the youngest player in the history of the Reds to score on his debut in the championship.

Youngest scorers in Liverpool FC history:

Rio Ngumoha – 16y 361d

Ben Woodburn – 17y 45d

Kaide Gordon – 17y 96d

Michael Owen – 17y 143d

Jordan Rossiter – 17y 183d

In fact, he had already managed to become, with his appearance in the FA Cup, at the age of 16 years and 135 days, the youngest Liverpool player to participate in the FA Cup and the youngest player to start in a first-team match in the club's history.

At the same time, he became the second youngest player in Premier League history to score a winning goal, after Wayne Rooney, who scored Everton's winning goal against Arsenal in October 2002.

The impressive thing about this is that Rooney did this while being one day younger than Ngumoha, at the age of 16 years and 360 days.

16 – Rio Ngumoha is the second 16-year-old to score a winning goal in a Premier League game, after Wayne Rooney in October 2002 for Everton vs Arsenal; he is one day younger (16 years, 361 days) than Rooney was that day.

He also became the fourth-youngest player to score in Premier League history, behind only James Vaughan, James Milner and of course Wayne Rooney.

Rio Ngumoha becomes the fourth youngest scorer in Premier League history:

1️⃣—James Vaughan: 16 years 270 days

2️⃣—James Milner: 16 years 356 days

3️⃣—Wayne Rooney: 16 years 360 days

4️⃣—Alexander McEntire: 16 years 270 days, 16 years 360 days

From Chelsea to Liverpool

In the meantime, we must pay special attention here as the footballer moved from Chelsea to Liverpool: a major transfer that went through… smoothly. Ngumoha, born on August 29, 2008, is originally from Nigeria. He moved from Chelsea to Liverpool in the fall of 2024, causing a sensation in academy circles.

Liverpool moved discreetly but decisively to acquire him, taking advantage of his dissatisfaction with his football career in London.

The fact that he left Chelsea to wear the Reds' jersey was considered a major blow, as the Merseyside team secured one of the most promising footballers of his age group.

In fact, the Chelsea people were so annoyed by the fact that they lost Ngumohoa, that they went so far as to forbid Liverpool scouts from watching games of the Blues' Academies.

He had managed to stand out in training

Dutch coach Arne Slot took the 16-year-old to Liverpool's training camp and he grabbed the opportunity by the hair. In the four friendlies he has played in, he has managed to score two goals and provide two assists, making himself a fixture in the Dutch manager's plans.

As soon as he turns 17, in a few days, Ngumoha is expected to sign his first professional contract with Liverpool. In fact, the two sides are already in contact and the deal is only a matter of time.

"We've only played two games here and we haven't played Premier League opponents yet, but I see him training, I see him playing and the impact he has when he trains and plays is really promising," said Slott after Liverpool's second friendly.

"He's definitely a player who shows that if he continues to perform like this, it certainly won't be the last time he plays a few minutes for Liverpool. It's all about consistency. He has to show it every day we're on the pitch."
