Lionel Messi Champions of World in Qatar 2022

Newly crowned world champion with Argentina, Lionel Messi is the heavy favorite for the best player award at the presentation of the 'Fifa Best' trophies on Monday (27/2) in Paris.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar has finally won with his country's National team the supreme title that was missing from his illustrious record and it seems that this is the best way to win the favor of the judging panel, which consists of coaches, national team captains and journalists, a panel completed by public online voting.

If successful, Messi will receive this accolade for the third time after 2009 and 2019 and succeed Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, winner in 2020 and 2021.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is up against two Frenchmen, his Parisian team-mate Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema. The former, top scorer at the 2022 World Cup with 8 goals, made his mark in the World Cup final with a legendary hat-trick, despite losing on penalties to Albiceleste.

Benzema, for his part, was the great architect of Real Madrid's 14th Champions League win, the fifth of his career and the one that won him the Ballon d'Or. Contenders to win The Best 2022 award for the best player in the world.
