Bavarian triumph in the final! Bayern - Real Madrid 4-3
Bayern will play the semifinals against PSG after eliminating a combative Real Madrid in Múnich.
It was the game of the season. The ultimate football performance!
Real Madrid held the ticket to extra time for 85 minutes. But the expulsion of the international French midfielder,
Eduardo Camavinga... froze them. It gave air to Bayern, which with a wonderful outburst, scored two goals, prevailed 4-3 and in combination with the 2-1 of the first match, solemnly passed to the semi-finals. There where they will face the holder of the trophy
Paris Saint-Germain.
An incredible first half, full of tension and changes: 5 goals, a post, missed chances, defenses... both goalkeepers out of place and time on a night of mistakes.
Real, who lined up for the first time without the Spaniard in their starting lineup, scored three goals, as they had done in 2014 in that unforgettable 4-0 win over Munich.
Bayern showed signs of disorganization at the back, but managed to stay in the game, finding the way to the net twice (2-3).
The “Queen” needed just 34 seconds to open the scoring, the home team captain, Manuel Neuer, made a serious mistake. And the young international Turkish midfielder, Arda Guler, with an impressive placement outside the area, punished him, writing 1-0 in favor of the guests. But the Bavarians’ reaction was immediate. In the 6th minute, after a corner kick from Joshua Kimmich, goalkeeper Lunin… retaliated for Neuer’s mistake. And the young midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović, untroubled in front of the goal, equalized from close range with a header (1-1).
The pace remained stormy, with both teams pressing high and constantly creating dangerous situations, but without finding the target, both Kylian Mbappe and Joshua Kimmich failed to score on the opportunities that presented themselves. In the 29th minute, however, Real took the lead again: Guler committed a foul, Neuer had a bad position and the ball ended up in the net. (1-2)
Bayern’s response came quickly. A short but explosive outburst was enough to bring the game back to an even level. In the 38th minute, after Real Madrid's defense was inactive, England international forward Harry Kane found himself in a shooting position and did not miss, tying the score at 2-2. Real Madrid, however, had the last word again. In the 41st minute, Brazilian winger Vinicius hit the post, but a minute later the phase was completed ideally: with wonderful individual energy, the Brazilian created for Mbappe, who, escaping from French central defender Upamecano, scored the 3-2 with a cool pass.
The two teams started the second half, just as they ended it. Fast pace and chances, with the two-time Colombian left winger, Luis Diaz, missing a chance in the 46th minute and the English international midfielder, Jude Bellingham, unable to beat Neuer in the 55th minute. The German goalkeeper had the answer in the 66th minute, when he blocked a wonderful shot from the Uruguayan, Federico Valverde. The presence of Michael Oliseh gave the Bavarians a boost, but his two impressive shots missed the target.
Bayern pressed in the last quarter, but Real had closed all the spaces. However, in the 86th minute, the Spanish team's coach, Alvaro Arbeloa, saw his only substitution sent off. Camavinga received two yellow cards in ten minutes and left his team with a player less. The worst came in the 89th minute, with Luis Diaz scoring a nice shot from outside the area to make it 3-3… a liberating one. Real went on the attack, Bayern found open space and Michael Olise, with a perfect finish, made it 4-3 in injury time. A result that sent Bayern to the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain. Real’s players, enraged by the referee’s decision, protested strongly after the match, with Guler facing a red card.
Thus, Real, which had led three times in Munich, was unable to qualify against the steel team that goes by the name of Bayern. Vincent Kompany's Belgian side prevailed 4-3 and booked their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Jamal Musiala
Meanwhile, international midfielder Jamal Musiala reached a small milestone in his still young career. The Bayern star made his 50th appearance in the Champions League. At 23 years and 48 days, the German international is the youngest German player to reach this special milestone. The previous record was held by Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich icon) who was 24 years and 53 days old when he made his 50th appearance in the Champions League.
Musiala replaced Serge Gnabry in the 61st minute. The Germany international has only made three other appearances in the Champions League this year, scoring once each against PSV Eindhoven (2-1) and Atalanta Bergamo (6-1). A serious injury sustained in the Club World Cup in the summer has prevented Musiala from playing more frequently in the top flight this season.
