Nuno Espirito Finally, New Nottingham Forest Coach Angelos Postecoglou

Former Tottenham manager Postecoglou signs with Forest until 2027

Ange Postecoglou australian head coach and new leader of Nottingham Forest as replacement of Nuno Espirito Santo.

The die was cast by Vangelis Marinakis and Nottingham Forest got a new coach, the Greek-Australian, Angelos Postecoglou, who in May had led Tottenham to win the UEFA Europa League (they beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao), but then Daniel Levy showed him the door to the exit from the "spurs".

Now Angelos Postecoglou, who had been invited by the Greek Super League to the established draw of the new championship which took place in a beautiful summer resort in Alimos, is taking over the technical leadership of Nottingham Forest. Mr. Postecoglou should be noted that he was sitting at the same table with the president of the Super League (and owner of Olympiacos, Nottingham, Rio Ave) Mr. Marinakis.

So the two men had been friends for some time and there was mutual respect between them. So as soon as he made him an offer, Mr. Marinakis immediately accepted it with the aim of creating a new chapter in Forest.

The owner of the club, Vangelis Marinakis, stated characteristically: “We are bringing in a coach with a proven and stable record of winning trophies. He has the experience and the desire to build something special with us. After returning to Europe, it is time for us to take the step to compete with the top teams and claim titles.”

Finally, Espirito Santo

Meanwhile, late on Monday night (8/9), the management of the English club announced the termination of its cooperation with the Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo, who left the technical leadership of the English team after 71 official games and with a "decoration" last season and entry into the Europa League. Nuno took over the Premier League team in December 2023 and since then has counted 71 games at the helm with a record of 30 wins, 15 draws and 26 losses.

The truth is that Forest's achievement of being in the Europa League is great, if one considers the level of the Premier League clubs and the great competition that exists every season for European tickets.

The last 5 matches ….

However, Nuno Espirito's team was in the "battle" for entry into the top European club competition even on the last matchday of last year's championship. They needed a victory over Chelsea at the "City Ground" and a combination of results to get the ticket.

However, the goal of the international central defender Levi Colwill in the 50th minute gave the away victory (1-0) to the "blues" and sent Nottingham to Europa. With the players and the Portuguese coach knowing that they had a great opportunity that they missed, since in the last 5 matches Nottingham collected only 5 points ...

Then just a few days before the start of the new Premier League championship, Nuno Espírito Santo spoke to the Sky Sports camera, in an interview that -it seems to have been the beginning of... the end. The Portuguese bitterly stated that the plans that existed were not realized. And the team was quite far from where it should have been, in terms of preparation and planning.

Essentially, the Portuguese "photographed" the disagreements that existed in the team's transfer, saying characteristically that in the squad there were players who knew that they would leave, but nevertheless continued to train with the team, while at the same time the desired additions did not occur.

Moreover, the relationship between Nuno Espirito and Endou, the man whom Marinakis hired in the summer to head Nottingham's football project, was more than bad, with reports stating that the two men hardly spoke! A situation that put... Vangelis Marinakis in the middle.

The president -and- of Olympiacos tried to give time, both to Nuno Espirito for better results in the championship, and to himself to make the best decision. The results did not come, but the decision was made and Nottingham now has a new coach, Angelos Postecoglou, for a new beginning with better results...
