Great Hwang, great turnaround, South Korea-Czech Republic 2-1
South Korea surprises Czech Republic and comes back with a great second half in their debut at the 2026 World Cup
The Czech national team went to... bring it to the superior South Korea. However, the latter with the former Olympiacos Piraeus and now Feyenoord midfielder, In-Beom Hwang doing wonderful things, the Asians prevailed 2-1 with a turnaround. They thus entered the 23rd World Cup with the right foot!
The South Koreans entered the game better. They circulated the ball better, with Son's shot from inside the area in the 12th minute going against the bodies. Two minutes later, it was Lee's turn to threaten, with a powerful long-range shot that tried to find the goalkeeper, Kovar, ready.
The Czechs managed to balance the situation halfway through the first half. But they were unable to create anything of note, with Son having two more missed attempts in the 38th and 39th minutes of the match.
The second half began with the Asians searching for the goal but falling to the excellent Kovar, who was stopped in turn by Huang (48'), Lee (48') and Son (56').
Ultimately, the goal came against the flow of the match for the Czech Republic, with Krejci scoring with a header after a cross from Vladimir Coufal in the 59th minute!
Despite the shock, the South Koreans managed to respond, with Lee finding Huang and the former Olympiacos midfielder emptying two opponents with amazing feint, sending the ball into the net with a wonderful dig in the 67th minute!
The game had become a grand guinol, with the Czechs reaching 2-1 in the 77th minute but the goal was disallowed for offside and the South Koreans answering three minutes later, with Gu scoring from close range after Huang's turn! Adam Hlozek came close to 2-2 in the 82nd minute but Kim stopped him, as did Michal Sadilek 's effort in injury time.
