UEFA Supercup. PSG won the first Super Cup in its history
PSG defeated the Europa League holder, Tottenham Hotspur, 4-3 (2-2 a.d.) and almost “stole” the UEFA Super Cup from their hands.
And in the end, Paris Saint-Germain celebrates, as in five of the six competitions it participated in in 2025. And now the team of the Spaniard, Luis Enrique, showed why it is the top team in the world. It returned from hell, and in the penalty shootout defeated the Europa League holder, Tottenham, 4-3 (2-2 a.d.) and almost “stole” the UEFA Super Cup from their hands.
Tottenham showed its intentions early on. Just in the 40th minute, the Spanish right-back (when he started his career he was a winger) Pedro Porro stole the ball outside the Paris Saint-Germain area, tried his foot, but the ball went high over the goal of Chevalier, who made his debut with the European champions.
The “answer” of the typical home team came in the 8th minute. Paris hid the ball, their players changed quickly in a few meters, but the shot of the Georgian winger Kvaratskhelia from inside the area went past the goal of the Italian goalkeeper, Vicario.
Tottenham took the lead
Six minutes before the end of the first half, the “Spurs” shocked the “Friuli” as with a close-range shot by the Dutch stopper, Micky Van de Ven, they opened the score.
Vicario executed the free kick just above the crossbar, Romero caught the header, the ball hit the bar and reached Palinha, who shot. The newly acquired French goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, made a stunning save. However, the ball hit the post and reached the feet of Van de Ven, who did not miss in an empty goal for 0-1.
Tottenham continued to fight with a tight defensive formation (5-2-2-1) and did not leave any empty spaces for the French to move. And in the 48th minute, their new captain, Argentine stopper, Cristian Romero, headed home the 2-0, laying the foundations for winning the first UEFA Super Cup in Tottenham's history.
Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the second half-time took advantage of the fact that Tottenham could not finish it, on the contrary, he gave it some space on the field. While as time passed, all the players of the Dane, Thomas Frank, defended behind the ball.
In the 85th minute, the seven-souled Paris made its appearance. The Tottenham players did not properly remove the danger, Lee controlled the ball outside the area of the Roosters and with a left-footed shot reduced it to 2-1.
The French continued to pressure Tottenham, who had been forced to return to their boxes trying to buy time and preserve their advantage. However, the international Portuguese center forward, Gonçalo Ramos, who had entered the game as a substitute in the 90' +4' with a wonderful header sent the ball into his own net Vicario equalized at 2-2.
The game ended 2-2 as extra time has been abolished in this competition, and went to penalties. And there Paris prevailed…
