Bayern stormed to a 6-1 win over Atalanta in Bergamo
Bayern Munich crushed Atalanta in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals and secured their place in the quarter-finals.
Bayern Munich showed their “teeth” once again by crushing Atalanta 6-1 away from home and almost secured their qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League. The highly impressive performance and victory of Vincent Kompany’s team over Palladino’s team was a show of power, which is logical to have a great impact throughout Europe. Confirming the ambitions of the German champions to win the greatest title in Europe, if not the world.
After leading 3-0 at half-time, the Bavarians did not give up, turning the Italian evening into a clear statement of intent. But the triumph left a bitter taste: Bayern paid a heavy price for the defeat with three injuries. The Bayern Munich management published medical reports the next day, namely on Wednesday (11/3) that mention three of their key players:
Alphonso Davies, Jonas Urbig and Jamal Musiala
were injured during Bayern’s 6-1 victory in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atalanta.
Davies suffered a rupture of the hamstring in his right leg. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig was diagnosed with a concussion. Midfielder Jamal Musiala is experiencing a reaction to his left ankle, which he injured last summer. These are the results of detailed examinations carried out by Bayern's medical department. All three players should rest."
Concern for Davis
The biggest concern revolves around Davis. The Canadian left-back, who was returning from a recent muscle injury, was forced to leave the field in tears after feeling the effects of the injury again. Here we must remember that he had already been out of action between March and October 2025 (with a torn anterior cruciate ligament). The chilling image, surrounded by his teammates as he hit the grass in frustration, dampened Munich's euphoria. Jamal Musiala and Jonas Urbig also failed to complete the match: the former limped off in the closing stages, and the goalkeeper ended up in hospital after a collision during the match that led to Pasalic's consolation goal, initially suspected to be a concussion, which was later confirmed. These injuries add to the absence of Manuel Neuer, who will be out for several weeks with a torn muscle.
The only good news in terms of injuries: the way the match unfolded allowed Harry Kane to spend the full 90 minutes on the bench and avoid further injury after his calf problem.
A whirlwind of a match
Bayern Munich went to Bergamo to do what they had already done throughout the group stage: to present another attempt at the title. The six-time European champions won an astonishing 6-1 over a helpless Atalanta, whose slim chances of reaching the last eight of the continent depended on securing a victory at the New Balance Arena. Palladino's players ultimately did not show up...
It is undeniable that Bayern were a whirlwind from the start, making Atalanta simply watch. It was only in the 12th minute that Stanisic opened the scoring from close range. But it did not end there. Bayern wanted more and defeated their opponent with two more goals before half-time, thanks to Michael Olise 21' and Gnabry 24'. . In the second half it was Nicholas Jackson's turn to make it 5-0 in the 51'. In the 64th minute, Olise struck again, followed by Jamal Musiala in the 66th minute, while Pasalic only reduced the score to 6-1 in the final 90+2 minutes.
Now on Wednesday in Munich, Atalanta's trip will be exclusively for sightseeing...
