Virgil Van Dijk is ready to extend his contract with Liverpool once again and remain a resident of England. The 33-year-old Dutch international defender and captain of the "Reds" seems to have accepted the offer made to him by the English team just before Christmas and is expected to sign the new contract in the coming days.

Tall central defender, Virgil Van Dijk "moved" to Liverpool in 2018 from Southampton. To date, in all competitions, he has recorded 296 appearances, with a tally of 25 goals and 13 assists, making him one of the best central defenders to have come through the club. And of course, one of the top stoppers in the world today.

Liverpool is currently in first place in the Premier League standings with 46 points, with one match less than second-placed Arsenal and third-placed Nottingham, who follow with 40.

What Van Dijk said

It is a fact that Van Dijk's recent statements caused a lot of noise. Especially when asked about his future at "Anfield", Van Dijk tried to answer in an oblique way... As there was and is information from Spain that Real Madrid want to follow the whole affair with interest. The Spaniards would like to see the Dutch stopper in the "merenches" who seem to be hurting a lot in the center of their defense in recent years.

"What will happen to your future? Will you stay at Liverpool?" The Spanish journalist, Edu Aguirre, began to ask the 33-year-old Dutch footballer, who renewed his contract with Liverpool until 2025 in 2021. "What a direct question... They don't ask me that directly," Virgil Van Dijk replied, surprised and smiling. The Reds defender was also persistently asked about the possibility of joining Real.

"Real Madrid need a centre-back," Aguirre remarked. "I don't know..." the Dutchman commented.
