Jovan Mijatovic new star of serbian football

Serbia's new big football star is called Jovan Mijatovic, he is only 18 years old and has already managed to write his name in the record pages.

The young Red Star forward scored three goals in Saturday's (14/12) 4-1 win over Spartak Subotica to become the youngest player in club history to score a hat-trick at the age of 18 years, 5 months and 5 days. For this achievement he managed to overtake the living legend of Serbian football, Dejan Stankovic.

The current coach of Ferencvaros, who will be on the road to Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League, scored three goals against Proleter Zrenjanin on March 7, 1998 at the age of 19 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Born in Belgrade on July 11, 2005, the left-footed Mijatovic - who is not related to the veteran Predrag - joined the Red Star academy before he was even 10 years old. He gradually climbed the ladder, he belongs to the generation that at the age of 14- 15 years old "locked" inside due to Covid-19, in 2021 he was out for several months due to a knee injury, but then... he took off.

At the age of 17, he was loaned out at the beginning of the 2022/23 season to Grafichar to get performances from the B-division league. With five goals in eight matches, he was such a catalyst that Asteras took him back in September, when the until then main forward, Milan Pavkov, was offered a contract worth millions and left for Saudi Arabia. In fact, Mijatovic got the jersey with No. 9, a heavy jersey especially for a kid who had just turned 17 years old. During the season he made 17 appearances in all competitions (league, cup, Europa League) and last May he scored his first goal in the play offs of the Serbian league.

This year he developed into a key forward for Red Star. With 8 goals and 2 assists in 13 league matches, he shows he can comfortably back it up. He already made his debut in the Champions League playing as a substitute in 4 of the six group matches, he also played two games (with two goals) in the Youth League and is a member of the U19 national team which is participating in the Elite Round of the European Championship. The moment when he will represent his country at a higher level is not long, just like the moment when Red Star will put several million euros in his coffers...
