The General Assembly presented an update report on the achievements of the SPL board since its previous meeting, highlighting its progress in implementing governance systems and experiencing growth in commercial revenues of the league.

Key among the achievements underscored are the updated organisational structure of the SPL, the establishment of new departments, and the development of world-class internal regulations. Those include financial regulations, the board of directors’ charter, as well as committees for nomination, compensation and audit, in addition to development of the competition’s regulations to the highest standards.

The report also hightlighted the success of the SPL in being named top of the AFC domestic competitions ranking in 2024, and the partnership agreement with ticketing platform “Webook”, contributing to an improved matchday experience for fans.

The league’s international profile continued to grow, with TV viewership figures exceeding 200 million, including three matches per week on broadcast across an average of 160 countries, while 14 SPL players competed in the summer’s Euro 2024 tournament. Meanwhile, the league attracted 10 of the world’s top 100 players this summer.

The General Assembly meeting saw the SPL’s financial statements approved, while Dr. Mohammed Al Amri and Co (BDO) was appointed as the SPL’s independent legal accountant for a term of four financial years.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Chairman Al Afaleq stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the SPL and clubs to implement the various aspects of its strategy aimed at realising the technical, commercial and organisational development of the competition to place the SPL among the top leagues in the world.
