Man City's big upset, inside Anfield, defeating Liverpool 2-1
"The Citizens" are back in the fight for the Premier League title against Arsenal after beating Liverpool.
What games does life and by extension football play? In an amazing derby that was decided from the 70th minute onwards, Manchester City prevailed 2-1 over Liverpool and even with an upset inside Anfield. That is, inside the home of last year's English champion. Thus, it left the Dutchman Arne Slot's team at -6 from the Premier League leader (and first favorite) 'Arsenal.
It is a fact that the guests entered the game better and saw the tall Norwegian forward, Erling Haaland not make good contact in a four-on-four in just the second minute. While the header of the Uzbek international stopper Khusanov in the 10th minute was misplaced.
Halfway through the first half, the Reds equalized the score and had two notable moments with Egyptian Salah (26', 28'), . While Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson said "no" to Haaland in the 34th minute. Egyptian Omar Marmoush's long-range effort in the 41st minute did not find the target, with the first half ending 0-0.
In the second half, Liverpool was the one who threatened first. However, Italian international goalkeeper Donnarumma blocked Hungarian international midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai s long-range shot (52'). Shortly after, French international forward Ekitike sent the ball out of the area. The Frenchman missed with a header from an advantageous position in the 56th minute, while in the immediately preceding phase, goalkeeper Alisson had stopped the Ghanaian winger, Antoine Semenyo.
Shortly after entering the game, the international Portuguese stopper, Ruben Dias (he took the place of Khusanov who was not feeling well, after a marking) had a long shot out in the 64th minute, while in the very next minute the newly acquired international stopper, Guehi, stopped with a saving tackle the German, Florent Wirtz, who was curling inside the area. Finally, in the 74th minute, it was 1-0 for the Reds, with the Hungarian, Szoboszlaj, nailing the ball into the net with a stunning free kick execution that left Donnarumma in a state of shock!
Silva and Haaland
However, ten minutes later the equalizer came, with Haaland heading the ball past Bernardo Silva, who scored from inside the area. Pep Guardiola's team did not stop there, however. In added time they won a penalty for a foul by Alisson on Nunez. ,And Haaland scored to make it 2-1! The Citizens defeated the Reds twice in the same season for the first time since 1937.
So Manchester City left Anfield unscathed and continue their pursuit of Arsenal to return to the
Premier League throne.
