“Revolutionary ideas” that will bring even more money to the teams and the national federations are the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino. The “strong man” of world football at the FIFA council held in Bogota, Colombia, in April, had presented a grand plan to raise more revenue and replace the current World Cup of Associations and the Confederate Cup.
Behind this important move there is an international consortium, which includes the Japanese SoftBank company and other investors from Asia and the Middle East, whose identity has not yet been revealed.
All revenues from this event, which will have a depth of 12 years, will reach an extraordinary amount of 25 billion dollars (about 21 billion euros) for both events. One understands why we are talking about a large number.
According to Mr. Infantino , this offer is an excellent opportunity for all confederations and FIFA members as well as for football in general and will all be won UEFA member countries can earn even $ 50 million as they are among the top five Nations League. For the five countries below, the amount is reduced from $ 15,000,000 to $ 20,000,000, while the worst 33 countries will be rewarded with a significant amount of up to $ 7,000,000.
The whole argument had been revealed in mid-April by the New York Times stating that Mr Infantino had put pressure on FIFA Council members to consider as an urgent proposal from an international consortium proposing a reform of the World Cup of Associations and the Confederations Cup.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino believes that his proposal to reorganize the Confederations Cup and the World Cup will bring new bigger revenue and will benefit all parties involved.
The “Mini-World Cup” (to replace the Confederations will be held every two years) and will have 8 teams. The “final eight” will be the culmination of a Global League competition, which is part of an ambitious international football reform plan. In fact, it is believed to be worth $ 25 billion over a 12-year period.
The new national team will be held in parallel with existing continental events such as the European Championship, Copa America, the African Nations Cup, etc., as well as the World Cup qualifiers.
With UEFA and CONCACAF having already formed National League competitions to replace the friendly games of national teams, Infantino’s suggestion is for the other confederations to follow the same path as to make the “Final 8” possible all over the world.
The 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia – won by Germany – is likely to be the last one in its current form. The new event will last 18 days and will give European teams the opportunity to have more relaxed footballers.
Indeed, a 22-page document presented by FIFA to its Board states that the changes will result in a 35% reduction in games between confederations played from 48 to 31 during a 4-year cycle.
World Cup of clubs
In the World Cup of Associations Mr. Infanto wants to start in June or July 2021 with the participation of 16 or 24 teams with the second being considered a more attractive solution. Europe and South America are the confederations that have all the trophies so far.
Brazilian teams may have claimed the first three releases, but only one of the last 11 has managed to prevail. The last time a Latin American team picked up the trophy was 2012 when the Brazilian, Corinthians defeated Chelsea 1-0. This new event will be held every 4 years.
In December 2017, when the event took place in the United Arab Emirates, Real Madrid became the first club to be able to defiantly defend its title. He beat Brazilian 1-0, Gremio with Cristiano Ronaldo.
FIFA World Cup Proposals:
1 – Champions League winner and finalists up to 4 years – 8 clubs
2- Europa Cup winner and finalists up to 4 years -8 clubs
3 – The winners of Copa Libertadores in the last 4 years – 4 clubs
4- 2 African / Asian winners / Concacaf – 2 clubs
5- Oceania Playoffs Game – 1 Team
6- The hostess
The offer has upset the world of football. Executives with Europe’s leading clubs, who would offer much of the star quality and attract more interest, are angry with what they see as a lack of FIFA consultations. UEFA was the first to reject Infantino’s requests to create and complete the deal soon. African officials also called for a more cautious approach to the negotiations, which, if successful, would be the first time that FIFA sold control of its events to an investment fund.
Reactions from League and UEFA
Meanwhile, several top leagues across Europe are opposed to FIFA expansion plans for the 2022 World Cup and future World Cup collections, “said European League president, Swedish, Lars- Christer Olsson.
“We are not prepared to make changes to the calendar for the expansion of the 2022 World Cup,” Olsson told The Times.
The European League is an umbrella group for 32 professional tournaments and associations from 25 European countries. It is against the proposed expansion, which will add extra days and matches to the racing program.
On May 16, UEFA’s strategy council — including leaders of European national federations, clubs, leagues and players’ union FIFPro — will meet in France during the FIFA consultation period.
The leagues called on other European officials to “firmly oppose and together stop this unilateral initiative from FIFA.”
