All aspire`s to organize a big tournament in the next years
In Belgrade, a meeting of the Quartet of Cooperation was held Saturday with the participation of Greek Prime Ministers Alexis Tsipras, Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, Romania Viorica Dancila and host, Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic. All parties agreed to apply for the final phase of the European Championship 2028 and the FIFA World Cup 2030.
As Vukic said, a 16-member committee will be set up, involving four members – representatives from each country, while the candidacy must be submitted by December 2021. The 16-member committee will be composed of 4 members from each country, two of which will come from government agencies and two from each national football federation.
The Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, referring to the Summit, but also to this issue, stressed: “We have created a very good team, a team that has learned to combine, to give passes, to play good defense, to protect the interests of each country as well as the region because they are common interests”.
The prime minister said using terms referring in football, since today’s meeting and the press conference were the sports ministers and the heads of the football federations of the four countries who discussed the issue of co-organizing major sporting events.
This team, continued Mr. Tsipras, “has learned to play a creative ball, to open the game, to think ideas that are very important for the region and I believe that through our very good cooperation, especially in the areas of infrastructure, of energy, but also in the development of a new geopolitical dynamics for the Balkan region, very soon this creative game we play can also have the effect of scoring. Organizing such major sports events is more than just a goal. It is an initiative that has a special symbolism. Our region is an area where all the past years have been conflicts, controversies, now we are symbolizing cooperation and we want through this initiative of claiming to make the Balkans a positive champion in Europe and the world “.
Greece was represented by Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports George Vassiliadis and EPO President Vangelis Grammenos. Next meetings of the four countries were scheduled in Sofia in February and Thessaloniki in April 2019.
Romania is also expected to host the next 7th four-day Bulgaria-Greece-Romania-Serbia co-operation meeting during its European presidency.
