
The club had previously won the top world ranking in 2000, 2002 and 2014 and is a previous winner of the Club World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the European Super Cup and the LaLiga.
IFFHS established the annual Club World Rankings with statistics to determine the best club of the year. (An explanation of the rules can be found on www.iffhs.de
Grêmio , which was ranked 34th in 2016, made a great jump to be rated second in the listing after winning the Copa Libertadores and reaching the final in the Club World Cup.
Manchester United came from 12th in 2016 to finish in third place with its victory in the the Europa League and regular club performances.
Fourth place went to FC Barcelona, winner of the CWR four times in the last 8 years, ahead of Paris Saint Germain, which gained a place in the Top 10 for the third successive year.
Flamengo (ranked 95 in 2016) finished sixth followed by FC Juventus, which kept its ranking in the Top 10 after winning the title in 1993 and 1996.
Then came FC Bayern München in 8th place with Manchester City, which returned to the World’s best teams after a six years absence and FC Salzburg completing the list.
CONTINENTS :
OCEANIA (OFC) :
Auckland City FC maintained the first place it scored in 2016 with Team Wellington FC second and AS Tefana third. Three clubs from New Caledonia and three from Tahiti reached the Top 10.
AFRICA (CAF) :
Al Ahly regained first place in the continent after an absence of seven years from last year’s top two, Etoile de Sahel and Espérance de Tunis. Four Tunisian clubs are in the Top 10.
ASIA (AFC) :
Al Hilal (2nd in 2014 and 2015) became the first Saudi club to reach the Top 30 in the Club World Ranking since 1991 . Second place went to Al Ahli SC (first in 2015) followed by Shanghai SIPG FC (10th last year) and Urawa Reds Diamonds. Three clubs from the Korea Republic were in the Top 10.
CONCACAF:
CF Pachuca (5th in 2016) was first in the continent. CF Tigres UANL was second and CF Monterrey third. Five Mexican clubs are in the Top 10.

Home United FC from Singapore registered the biggest improvement during the year, rising from 1580 in 2016 to 301 in 2017).
Osmanlispor (36th in 2016 down to 773 in 2017) made the greatest drop in rankings.
